Your work situation will not be the same as the exercise at the surface level, but embodies the skills you will need to succeed. The idea is to replicate a situation where people with different skills come together to win in the market using practices associated with an agile organization.

This is very true, however in this exercise the goal is the determining factor and anything less than achieving the goal is unacceptable. The gain in expertise that happens when you achieve the goal is the purpose of the exercise.
WTRI’s research has shown that when people are compelled to achieve a non-negotiable goal, they will develop the capability to achieve it, especially if they have the opportunity for rehearsal. Moving the goal risks the development of the ability to achieve it.
